The Jacques Delors Centre at the Hertie School is pleased to invite you to a keynote speech by José Manuel Albares, Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain, on the future of Europe in an increasingly fragmented and competitive world.
At a moment of profound geopolitical change, Europe faces growing pressure to strengthen its capacity to act collectively – economically, socially, and in matters of security and defence. From Russia’s war against Ukraine to global industrial competition and the climate crisis, the European Union is being tested on multiple fronts at once.
In his keynote, Minister Albares will outline Spain’s perspective on the future of Europe and discuss how the EU can reinforce its strategic autonomy while remaining open, democratic, and globally engaged. The speech will address key challenges including collective European defence, the triple transition – green, digital, and social – and the need for a more ambitious European budget capable of supporting Europe’s political priorities and economic resilience.
The keynote will be followed by a moderated discussion and Q&A with the audience. The event will take place on-site in English and will be recorded.
