Spain’s prestigious women’s handball Super Amara Bera defeated Elda and reached the final stage of the Queen’s Cup of Spain after a close race.
Vera Vera defeated Elda Prestigio 25-23 in the semifinals of the 47th Spanish handball queen cup (XLVII Copa de la Reina) held at Plaza de Toros de Illumbe in San Sebastian, Spain on the 9th (local time). With this, Vera Vera built a golden tower to reach the 18th Queen’s Cup final in the club’s history.
It was a tight race at the beginning of the game. Eldar edged ahead with Beatriz Cuadrado’s performance, but Vera Vera finished the first half 13-12 ahead thanks to consecutive points scored by Elba Álvarez, who was named the MVP of the game.
Eldar’s counterattack was strong in the second half. Eldar turned the tide 17-15 by conceding only two goals while scoring five early in the second half. Vera Vera, who was in crisis, began his pursuit based on Elke Karsten’s offensive lead and Maitane Etxeberria’s solid defense.
Vera Vera, who made a 22-21 comeback with Kaba Gavilán’s score with five minutes left in the match, won the game when goalkeeper Lucia Prades blocked the opponent’s decisive 7m draw.
The end of the game was decorated by Maitane Echeverria. Just before the end of the match, Echeverria scored the winning goal for the team. It was her 1,000th career goal in the Vera Vera outfit, and it was a monumental moment for her personally as well as her team’s qualification for the finals.
Vera Vera led the team to victory with Elba Alvarez scoring seven goals, Elke Carsten scoring five, and Maitane Echeverria scoring two goals (achieving his 1000th goal in Tongsan).
Elda scored six goals each by Beatrice Cuadrado and five by Rafaela Priolo and Malena Valles, but they did not prevent the team from losing.
Vera Vera, who advanced to the final, will clash with Mecalia Atlico Guardés, who beat Locasa in the final for the trophy.
