A Brit abroad in Benidorm has issued a sunbed alert for visitors this year, urging them to be extremely vigilant in the Spanish city.
Benidorm is popular with Brits as it’s cheap, cheerful, and perfect for stag and hen parties. In some places, you can get a pint for less than a pound, and the beachfront is rammed full of tourists, often from the UK, even during Maytime before high season has really started.
But while it may seem like all fun and games when you’re there, Harry Poulton, who now lives in Benidorm, has warned that scammers are rife and looking to make some quick cash from you.
Harry, who posts on TikTok @harrytokky, asked people to “listen up,” as he detailed a “new scam in Benidorm”.
He said: “Oh no, there’s a new scam in Benidorm, let’s talk about it! This is a warning for anyone coming out to Benidorm: make sure to listen up”.
Harry referred to it as a “very silly scam,” saying you should make sure you don’t “fall victim” to it, but admitting that it’s “easily done” if you’re not aware.
“I would probably fall for it,” he admitted, before sharing what the scam is. Harry continued: “Behind me is a huge range of sunbeds here in Benidorm.
“And, to get one, you have to pay €6 (£5.22). Now, if anyone comes up to you and says, ‘You wanna pay for a sunbed?’ then you’ve got to make sure that they are the real sunbed inspectors.
“Now, when you’re paying, they will give you a ticket. If they don’t give you a ticket, you are being scammed”.
Harry said that it’s “very important that you get a ticket, because without a ticket, when the real sunbed inspector comes around, you could technically get a fine, or you could just end up having to pay again,” which nobody wants to do because “you don’t wanna be caught out”.
He said that he knows it’s “only a small amount of money,” but when “you’re on holiday, it all adds up”.
Harry pointed out: “You don’t want to be paying twice for sunbeds to some random stranger on the Benidorm beach, who is taking advantage of your hard-earned cash”.
Someone pointed out that “that scam was on an episode of Benidorm in season one or two,” but another pointed out that “not everybody has seen that show”.
It’s not the only thing Harry has told people about in Benidorm recently, either. In another video recently, he was gobsmacked at how busy Benidorm was, saying there was “nowhere to go” because there were so many people enjoying the Benidorm beach front.
