Altea is one among the foremost beautiful and sustainable villages in Spain. Its old town and its viewpoint are enormously renowned for his or her charm. Many of its streets are cobbled and walking through them you’ll see numerous restaurants and hotels. The Plaza de la Iglesia is the centre, and int the summer it is the true centre of leisure and culture in Altea.

The promenade isn’t to be missed. Here you are going to enjoy beautiful pebble beaches, much quieter than the sandy ones and certainly most of them, to travel with children, as romantic destinations or as you wish, where you can practice many water sports like swimming, windsurfing, windsurfing and sailing… and much more.

If you are feeling like hiking or any other sport, you furthermore may have a wide range of options, as nature gives these charming places mountains such as the Sierra de Bernia or the Natural Park of Sierra Helada.

Altea is a charming town and not in vain has several attractions considered of Cultural Interest:

Valencia Gate

Portal Vell or Valencia Gate, open to the road north of the wall. the main Street joins the Portal Vell with the Plaza de la Iglesia. it’s preserved today with its unaltered layout. At the end, on the right, you’ll see the union of the original temple with the new church.

Salamanca Street

On Salamanca Street the buildings of interest are found at numbers 1 and three of this street. At number 5 of the street, the building preserves practically intact the typology of the last half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Glorieta Del Mano

The Glorieta Del Mano street is next to the bastion, within the northeast corner, was the House of the Lordship that dominated with its fire the mouth of the river Algar. Today the Glorieta del Maño, with panoramic views, occupies its place.

Fondo Street

On Fondo Street nº 8, they form the building that maintains the foundational plot of the eighteenth century to the wall, without perforations in it. Also, of interest is that the building at 5 Concepción Street, where an oven from the founding period has been discovered.

Portal Nou

The Portal Nou is the second of the two gates that remain. Also, referred to as Puerta del Mar, they opened it in the middle of the 18th century thanks to the importance of the Rabal Marinero, at the turning point of the seafront.

Plaza de Carmelina Sanchez Cutillas

Attached to the Portal, is the Plaza de Carmelina Sanchez Cutillas. With it, Altea pays tribute to the Altea writer of the 50’s generation, which led to the streets of the town through the book Matèria de Bretanya.

Francesc Marinez I Marinaz Square

Located in the southeast corner of the bastion was the Casa del Comú i Justícia. Today the Plaza de Francesc Martínez i Martínez honours the figure of the illustrious historian from Altea.

Santa Barbara Street

As a singular building, within the complex, is the façade of the Casa Cervantes.They built this houset by Francisco Martínez i Martínez, a member of the Renaixença Valenciana at the start of the 20th century and an eminent scholar of the works of Miguel de Cervantes.

Plaza De La Iglesia

Space that occupied the Castle of Altea, of square body, with three sentry boxes in the corners. In the fourth corner, an emerging rhombus was attached and finished in the arrowhead to defend the gateway to the castle. From its viewpoint, we can feel like a lively a part of history, involved in the past of our people.

Cura Cremades Street

Located in the southwest corner of the bastion was the Portal del Castell or Polop, open to the West. Cura Cremades Street owes its name to the parish priest who made possible the construction of the Parish Church: Juan Bautista Cremades Peiró, who knew the way to combine the efforts of all the people of Altea to create the Church that dominates the highest of the hill and forms a significant part of the silhouette of Altea.
